Born and raised in Singapore, I moved to the US with my family when I was a teenager in the '90s. While attending NYU, my love for fashion was kindled while interning at the corporate offices of the now-defunct-eternally-it-girl-favorite Barneys New York! #dreaminternship
My first job out of college was in the NYC showroom for RAJ Swim, a swimwear manufacturer that's based in Orange County, California. In a time when other companies were rapidly outsourcing to other countries, maximizing profit margins but undermining quality control, RAJ maintained the integrity of its in-house and licensed brands by manufacturing the majority of its products in their own factories in SoCal. This ingrained in me an appreciation for and really, an expectation of, high quality and well-made products.
Fast forward a few years to meeting my husband in the West Village in Manhattan. After having our first daughter, I decided to transition out of my job to become a stay-at-home mama. Desiring a creative outlet with flexible hours, I started LuluLuvs in the Winter of 2011 with chunky hand knit scarves for women and kids, and expanded the brand with the addition of hand made hair bows and bow ties in the Spring of 2013.
My little brand has grown over the last decade through markets, in small shops, multiple dream collabs (ace&jig! Oeuf! Kallio NYC!), a short stint at Pop-In@Nordstrom with Maisonette, and even a couple of features on The Wirecutter, a product recommendations site owned by The New York Times!
LuluLuvs is classic, elegant femininity (gimme all the Liberty of London florals) and modern, a reflection of our lives in NYC.
I have intentionally kept my business small, it is how I like it and what works best for our family. Everything in the shop is designed, prototyped, sewn, assembled, packaged and shipped out by me so you can expect the utmost attention to quality and workmanship!
My husband and I have been living in the Park Slope neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY for over 2 decades, and we are happily raising our 2 girls here.
